Falling into fall.

We have been falling into fall since about June. Summer was meek and easily cowed by the coming season, and despite the best efforts of the sun to hike itself as far north as possible, summer was at best a fizzle.

Now summer has stopped pretending and during the night (I think it was last Thursday) donned dark glasses and a head scarf and boarded a midnight bus for Phoenix or somewhere. Fall has happily leapt into the void, it is amply clear. How so?

Darker, gloomier skies.

Garage spider now the size of a baseball mitt.

River-fog in the mornings when the sky skimps on overnight gloominess.

Dearth of birds -- summer ones gone, winter ones in no hurry to get here.

School zones crazy-traffic death-traps -- speeding mini-vans brimming with corpulent tots.

But there is a bright side:

Oh yeah, the bog is a-bustin'. Click on the pic, and fall right in!

Ah yes, fall, a time to avoid going out in traffic anywhere between 2:30 and 3:30. Those wild mothers! Whatever happened to walking?

I liked your blog this day ... a fun read! (I've been away from my own computer so am just catching up on all my blogs of interest.)
