Happy Canada Day, tree-lovers and others.

Happy Canada Day!

This is the closest I could find to a Canadian flag growing in the garden. Today is Canada's 141st birthday, although she could easily pass for 139.

Today also brings the July edition of Festival of the Trees, presented by Tai Haku at Earth, Wind & Water. This month's festival is a very clever melding of an extremely important event in the history of science -- and trees. Today is the sesquicentennial of that event, which makes it 9 years older than Canada. Go find out what it is!

Aw, shucks, Hugh, I think she'd pass for 135. Why be petty?

Because of her fondness for stretch pants. We're trying to coax her into something a little more staid, for when the Queen visits.

Thanks, Mon@rch (I think you're referring to the next day's post).
