Pumpkinalia

Here is a lovely pumpkin patch on Westham Island. Did we buy our pumpkins there? Nope. Those pumpkins were sitting in the mud. We do not buy muddy pumpkins, thank you.

Instead, we buy our pumpkins in Richmond, but not at the "Pumpkin Patch" on Steveston Highway. Why not? Correct. Mud. Serious mud.

We buy our pumpkins from a family farm on No. 2 Road, a little south of Steveston Highway. Why? Because they sell their pumpkins pre-washed.

This year's pick. Not as diverse as last year's, but we waited too long and many of the more intriguing oddballs had been taken. My favourite is the one in the middle--Scarface.

And then I wondered what pumpkins would look like if they were the same colours as Steller's Jays. Probably something like this:

Okay, I'll stop doing that for a while.

You are smart to buy your pumpkins prewashed. When working at a nursery a couple of years back, I was put in charge (banished) to washing the fall pumpkins. Fun.

Okay those blue pumpkins are quite creepy looking.

Aunt Debbi,

I also have been banished to that task at a workplace. Hence the avoidance. (That, and keeping the children relatively mud-free.)

PG,

Really? Maybe I'll paint them instead of carving them.

They sort of look like gigantic blueberries now.

Nevertheless, Scarface was very cute. Sorry if you were intending it to be scary.

"Gigantic blueberries"? They look like fungal death-bombs from the planet z0rb.

But then I'm a doomer.
