Why Schizostylis coccinea is a favourite:

Because when the sky is grey and the air is cold and it's raining as often as not -- and most of the garden looks like this:

Beautiful fall flowers, that must be a very rare trait in temperate plants.

Yes, very beautiful, and they are among the few remaining flowers, along with a few roses and sedums.
