Hooray for Hazel.

When much of the garden looks like this,

the witch-hazel puts on a show,

a welcome splash of orange in the dog days of winter.

Still not a Varied Thrush, but it will do.

You know, I think I need to plant some witch hazel.

I too, think we need some of that witchy stuff here!

That color is gorgeous! It must be a different species than what I see here -- I am accustomed to a pale yellow flower.

Thanks for the reminder. We need to walk along the creek where our witch hazel should be blooming. It too has a much paler yellow flower, but that may be because we always forget to check out the blooms in their prime.

This isn't a native plant. It's likely a cultivar, possibly with an Asian pedigree.
