Odd mallard hen.

Quack.

Every pond, ditch, and soggy farm field these days contains pairs of Mallards. It's duck dating season. This pair caught my eye because the female appears to be partially leucistic, with patches of skin and feathers lacking pigmentation.

Quack yourself.

In her size, proportions and other aspects of appearance she appears to be all Mallard (as opposed to a Mallard X domestic cross).

She's an odd duck indeed. Wonder what the male see's in her.

There's one like that on a lake near us. Could it be a fairly common mutation? She is lovely and I'm glad she has an admirer despite (because of?) her uniqueness.
