Out on the mudflat, mulling over mudthings. The tide is about to turn. Hitch up your pants and head for the beach.
Oh! My daughter is studying this specific bird. We were working on the "field markings" page of her report the other day and I was having trouble confirming the correct information. Do you guys have the same variant up there that we do, reddish-brown and grey more than brown and white? And fatter belly? Looks like it from your photos. That song, just one of so many! They are virtuosi!!
Karen, yes, we have the same race as you. It's a widespread, variable species. Many sources show only eastern birds, which are much lighter.
Great song, so easy to dismiss the little sparrows. On my breaks I sit outside and listen to birds chirping in the trees.
