"It's called thimbleberry."


"Here's a berry."

"It looks like a raspberry."

"Hold up your thumb. See? It's like a thimble."

"Oh yeah... What's a thimble?"

I laughed at "what's a thimble?"...but I'll bet there are many who have never seen or used one.

Are they as tasty as Raspberries?

Carol, The berries are okay, but mild (bland?)compared to raspberries. They're a bit fuzzy too, which some find unappealing.

Take up hand quilting ... you'll want a couple of thimbles and good ones at that!

Kids! You gotta' love them! I had the pleasure of visiting with a youngster this weekend and sharing nature. This afternoon he came over and covered my kitchen table with all the treasures he found today. What fun we had. ~karen

Beautiful foliage - they do look a lot like maple (or Canada!) leaves. I didn't realize how large the leaves were until I saw the last picture.

I love any wild berries, but thimbleberries are more seeds than pulp. I much prefer salmonberries. I have to admit, I have a few thimbles, but have never used them ("probably should use one next time" I've mumbled to myself on a few occasions).

Got some here too. They taste very dry - do you know what I mean? Not as juicy as a raspberry. Have a great day!

Thimbleberry still in bloom here on the West Coast - will be a while before we can enjoy the berries as well!
