Cold and hungry.

Here's something to keep in mind: when you go on a long bike ride, the probability of being hit by a surprise snow squall increases with the distance you are from home.  I sheltered next to a holly bush until it subsided.

A hungry young heron continued foraging as if nothing was amiss.  He was hunting for voles, and paid no attention to me although I was only a few feet away.  I missed the point at which he stabbed his bill into the thatch.

I missed the picture, and he missed the vole.

Then he did this.  A heron shrug.
