Ghost town.

I can waste a lot of time on Google Earth, especially when work is plodding along.  I often look up places in the news, drop down and walk around.   An odd aspect of clicking along a road almost anywhere is that more often than not a place seems strangely deserted and glum.

Today I looked up Minamisanriku, which is a small coastal city on an inlet about 60 Km north of Sendai.  There were only a couple of Googled roads through town, and I more or less randomly picked a crossroads.
The first thing I saw was this sign, which doesn't require translation or clearer focus.

I believe this town has been virtually destroyed.

One's heart aches.
