Garlic gone loopy.

I have never planted garlic, thus was not aware of what a performer it is.  I came across a patch at a community garden that hadn't been topped.  The scapes were exploring their spaces.

Apparently you're supposed to lop them off before they develop into flower heads, to direct nutrients to the bulb.  And apparently the scapes are delicious, used as a pot-herb, or eaten alone.

Not only a delicious, nutritious vegetable.  It's also a sculpture.

Very interesting! I didn't know that about garlic either...plus I've never grown it. I tried growing chives, but they got eaten.

The scapes are delicious - pan fry them in butter or add to a stir fry. We ate ours a couple of weeks ago. Yumm.
