The relatively small, absolutely shallow, man-made pond at Garden City Park has for several days (at least), been a stopover for rafts of mergansers, both Common,
and Hooded. Today I counted 18 Common, 14 Hooded Mergansers, twice what I've ever seen of either species at the park.
What does it mean? Why so mergy, why now?
I don't know.
Needless to say, sticklebacks and feral goldfish are nervous.

I don't think I've ever seen the word "mergatroyd" in print! Love your posts, especially your titles.
