Wandering on a mudflat, puzzling over lugworm leavings. Not far off, a large volcano snoozes.

Drowsy Night-heron amid sleeping catkins.
Here's one of the overwintering Black-crowned Night-herons at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary, showing a little more of itself than they usually do. Typically, they are somnolent blobs obscured by numerous layers of branches. Look. The eye is even open. Edit: Sort of. Okay, the bird is drowsy. I'm changing the first word of the title from Awake to Drowsy.

Oh man, what a fabulous trip you had to Reifel Bird Sanctuary! You got so many great photos (and picked up so many clever descriptions & titles too!)
Got any more?
Wonderful capture. I got some great photos of the night heron as it was passing through our area last September.
