Red flags.

Ho.  Nothing perks up a gloomy day like not one, but TWO Pileated Woodpeckers.  They were flighty and noisy, clowning through the forest.

This is about the best picture of the set, certainly not the best pileated shot I've ever taken, but also by far not the worst. This is one of those birds that I can't refrain from clicking madly at, no matter how unpromising the view in the frame.  This is why digital cameras are magical.

Wow, great pictures and great find! I've never seen one...yet! Down here we've got downy and hairy woodpeckers, Northern flickers and sapsuckers.

Over a decade in the lower mainland and I've yet to see one here. Tuesday a colleague tells me she saw "Woody Woodpecker" at Reifel and now you post these photos. Clearly it is a sign! Such cool birds! :)
