Yellow eyes.
Look here. A flotilla of handsome yellow-eyed dude-ducks. Clockwise from bottom-left: Greater Scaup, Lesser Scaup, Common Goldeneye.
If you want to learn common ducks quickly, waddle along the south side of Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park as if your pockets are bulging with grain.

A trio of handsome fellas.
wow, those are some gorgeous guys. AND you may have solved a mystery. 2 days ago I was driving past our local pond and caught JUST a GLIMPSE of a duck and I whizzed past. My brain said "harlequin duck?!? is that possible?!?"
What I DO remember is that DOT on the face betwixt beak & eye. It was probably a tiny, out-the-right-side-of-my-right-eye flicker of goldeneye. MUCH more likely than harlequin, yet still riddled with handsome.
I'll have to remember that grain-in-pockets walk trick. Schmart!
Pardon, I missed the key verb in your advice: WADDLE, don't walk. Gotcha!
bb: I've never seen a harlequin in a pond. Common Goldeneye seems more likely.
Waddle waddle waddle.
Nice to see both Scaups together. Greater is greener!
