I've got shotgun-shell wings and a tail that warns Caution.

I live in your neighbourhood, I see you.

You should see me.

Pay attention.

I saw my first cedar waxwings in Monterey, CA this winter. They picked a tree completely bare of its red berries within a couple hours.

Eskarina, this is my best cedar waxwing photo ever. I didn't fiddle with the image at all. I got lucky; it landed in front of me.

Neil, One can only imagine the terror in those dark ages.

Mr. S., Thank you for that. It's about time someone addressed that issue.

Katie, They are a very common bird here in the summer and fall. I remember seeing a flock in Albany CA (behind my apartment). They were taking nectar from the flowers of a Albizia julibrissin (silk tree). I didn't realize they were sort of rare down there.

I don't think they're all that rare of a winter bird here; they're just rare to me ;)

Good God, they are INSANELY stunning.

And I like the strategy in their coloration:
see these BRIGHT spots,
don't see my eyes.
Am I staring at you,
or ogling a berry?
You'll never know...
until it's too late.

Mwa ha ha ha!
