Arthropod Issues: Part One.

Office Jumpy on window blind.

I have trained our children to appreciate jumping spiders. They now cheerfully refer to them as "jumpies."

There's one who lives in the breakfast nook, and one in my office. Both are always in plain view, ready to jump on things. Today, third day of summer vacation, it was discovered that there is one in son's room too.

Now I have a pouty seven-year-old daughter who wants one for her bedroom. I have to give up Office Jumpy, or it will be a long summer.

You are a noble man and a good father. It takes a strong man to give up a jumpie for his daughter! We salute you.

I dont think I could cope with jumping spiders - have enough problems when they dash across the floor

In our house they are Oreo cookie spiders (I can't take credit for the name - he learnt that at preschool).

I think it's wonderful that your daughter wants a spider... my mom is arachnophobic and I think I picked it up from her as a kid, and it's seriously made life difficult although I've been improving. If only I'd had my own Jumpy!
